Horsemanship Class

By Rebecca N.
At CVA, we have seven horses and one great horse program. We learn so many things. The number one thing is “Join Up.” Join up is the process that makes a horse respect and trust you. After Join Up, we learn round penning, then barrel racing. After that, we get to go on trail rides.
My favorite horse is named Eclipse. He is a Spotted Saddle Pony. Our horses’ names are Little Bit, Sunny, Pilgrim, Twinkle Toes, Eclipse, Major and Shiloh.
The number one reason I came to this school was because of the horse program. When I got to be in the horse program in the first quarter, I was thrilled.
Sometimes on Sundays, I get to go riding with my friends. It is so satisfying when you know how to properly ride a horse. My favorite speed on a horse is cantering. I have yet to try galloping. I am excited to learn that next.
If you have not been able to ride a horse then I feel bad for you. Try finding a friend with a horse and ask to take care of it.
First quarter, I was in horsemanship and I got to feed the horses on Sunday and Monday mornings. That taught me how to be responsible for the horses. As I look back, those were some of the best mornings of this school year. At the very end of horsemanship, we go to the field and take pictures with the horses that we have worked with. First quarter, the pictures turned out really good. I have made so many great memories in the horse program.
